"Who In The World Am I?' Ah, That's The Great Puzzle!" (23 October 2022)
And so on down the rabbit-hole of the 'family Annonaceae' I went.
Because really. Who even knows what a 'Guanabana' is? Do you? Did you know without having to consult a horticultural catalogue first? Because I sure as heck didn't. It's a 'Soursop' apparently.
"Curiouser and curiouser..."
Belonging to the same family as the custard-apple, cherimoya, sweetsop and ylang-ylang, it is native to the tropical regions of the Americas and the Caribbean. "With an aroma similar to pineapple, the flavour has been described as a combination of strawberries and apple with sour citrus flavour notes, contrasting with an underlying thick creamy texture reminiscent of banana" - thanks Wikipedia!
So...with all that homework out of the way...does this juice taste anything like that description? Well...yes actually! Now, the full name of this vape juice is 'Guanabana & Lime On Ice' and with the fruit itself containing citrus notes already, the added lime part feels a little redundant as it's not really noticeable as much of an extra note in this 50/50 mix; but there is a subtle 'ice' sensation on the finish. Not a huge amount, but it's there and it's very pleasant.
As for all the other 'Guanabana' notes, well it definitely has that initial light pineapple scent upon opening the bottle, and tastes of an unusual blend of sweet apple, faint strawberry and a kind of custard-like note, that leaves a sugary taste in the mouth for a short time after exhalation.
I don't know that I've ever tasted anything like this before. It's not overwhelmingly intense, but it's intriguingly unique. And it's also very moreish - at least it is to my sweet-teeth 'n taste-buds. When I passed it over to the other half to try however, he said it was pleasant but that it reminded him of the way washing-up liquid smells. So, horses for courses I guess. I imagine it might end up being one of those 'Marmite' juices that really divides people, but I'm a definite fan and once again really happy to have found another new vape that I'm definitely going to be keeping in my regular rotation.
If you're trying this and you also wish that there was more of a 'lime' note in there, I played around with it and found that by adding a little 'Twister' from Ohm Brew (roughly 1 part 'Twister', 4 parts 'Guanabana & Lime On Ice') you get a really tangy tropical blend. So, maybe give that a try if you're not too fond of the sweeter, almost aromatic flavours alone.
And on that note I shall leave you, hopefully feeling as weirdly invigorated as I do from having learned about all things 'family Annonaceae'. I cannot unsee all those pictures of funny little spiky fruits or any of their bizarro custard-apple cousins, but maybe that's a good thing. As Alice herself said:
"It's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then."
